Ten days comfortably covers Marrakech, the Sahara, the Atlas crossing, Fes and either Chefchaouen or the coast. It does not cover the whole country, but it is the length most first-time visitors find gives the best balance of variety and pace.

What is the best 10-day Morocco route for a first trip?

A south-to-north loop: two nights in Marrakech, two days crossing to the desert via Ait Ben Haddou, a night at Merzouga, two nights in Fes, then Chefchaouen and the coast before flying out of Casablanca. Run it in reverse if you fly into Casablanca.

How much driving is there on a 10-day Morocco tour?

The longest days are Marrakech to the Dades Valley and Merzouga to Fes, each around 6 to 8 hours with stops. Most other days are 2 to 4 hours. A private tour lets you break the long legs with extra stops.

10 Days in Morocco: A Complete Day-by-Day Itinerary

Ten days is the length most first-time visitors settle on: enough to combine the Sahara, the Atlas Mountains, two imperial cities and either the blue city or the coast without spending every day in the car. Days 1–2: Marrakech

Start in Marrakech with two nights so the first day absorbs any jet lag. See Jemaa el-Fnaa at dusk, the souks, the Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs and the Majorelle Garden, and eat dinner on a medina rooftop. Our complete guide to things to do in Marrakech has a two-day plan.

Day 3: Marrakech to the Dades Valley

Cross the Tizi n’Tichka pass and stop at Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate before overnighting in the Dades Valley. About 6 hours of driving with stops.

Day 4: Dades Valley to Merzouga

Through Todra Gorge and the palm groves to Merzouga, then a sunset camel trek onto Erg Chebbi and a night in a desert camp — for most travellers the highlight of the trip.

Day 5: Merzouga to Fes

A long but scenic day: sunrise on the dunes, the Ziz Valley gorge, and the cedar forest around Azrou where Barbary macaques sit by the road. Our post on Ifrane and Azrou covers this stretch. Arrive in Fes in the evening.

Days 6–7: Fes

Two nights in Fes to walk Fes el-Bali, the world’s largest car-free medina, with its tanneries, madrasas and Bab Boujloud — a local guide is worth it here, as our Fes guide explains. Use the spare half-day for the Roman ruins at Volubilis and Moulay Idriss.

Day 8: Fes to Chefchaouen

Four hours north into the Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen, the blue-washed town that is far more relaxed than the big medinas. See our Chefchaouen guide for what to do with an afternoon and evening there.

Day 9: Chefchaouen to Rabat or Casablanca

Head to the coast via Rabat, the calm capital, or continue to Casablanca for the Hassan II Mosque, one of the few in Morocco open to non-Muslim visitors.

Day 10: Departure
