12 Days in Morocco: Seeing the Whole Country Without Rushing

What 12 Days Adds Over 10

Compared with our 10-day Morocco itinerary: a night in Tangier with a stop in whitewashed Asilah; a second, non-driving day at Merzouga for a 4x4 run out to nomad camps and the village of Khamlia; and two nights in Essaouira on the Atlantic instead of a rushed day trip.

A Day-by-Day Sketch

Days 1–2: Casablanca and the Hassan II Mosque, then Rabat, Asilah and a night in Tangier. Day 3: Tangier to Chefchaouen. Days 4–5: Chefchaouen to Fes via Volubilis and Meknes, then a full guided day in the Fes medina. Days 6–8: south past Ifrane to Merzouga, a full day in the dunes, then west via Todra Gorge to the Dades Valley. Day 9: the Dades Valley to Marrakech via Ait Ben Haddou. Days 10–12: a guided day in Marrakech, two nights in Essaouira, then the transfer out.

Is 12 Days Too Long for a First Trip?

No — the slower pace is the point. Driving days are broken by real stops and most bases get two nights. It suits travellers who want to see the country properly in one go rather than come back, and who would rather have unstructured afternoons in Fes and Essaouira than tick off two more towns. Starting and Ending Near Casablanca
