Most visitors land in Casablanca and fly home from Marrakech, or the reverse — Casablanca has the long-haul flights and Marrakech has the medina everyone pictures. The direct A7 toll road between the two takes under three hours, and there is a fast train, but almost nobody travels that way, because everything worth seeing is in between. Here is what each trip length actually gets you.

The Direct Route: Half a Day

About 230 km, 2 hours 45 minutes on the A7 motorway, or roughly 3 hours by train from Casa-Voyageurs to Marrakech. This only makes sense if you have already seen the rest of the country or are connecting between two other trips.

What Sits Between the Two Cities

The reason to take days rather than hours: Rabat, the calm capital, is 90 minutes north of Casablanca. Beyond it are the blue lanes of Chefchaouen, the Roman city of Volubilis, and the vast walled medina of Fes. Turn south and you reach the Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga, then Todra Gorge, the Dades Valley and Ait Ben Haddou before the road climbs over the Atlas into Marrakech. A direct transfer skips every one of these.

3–4 Days: Rushed but Possible

Casablanca to Rabat, then Fes, then one night in the desert, then Marrakech. You will spend long stretches in the car, get a single night in the dunes, and only scratch each city. It works if your holiday is genuinely short, but most people wish they had added a day or two.

6 Days: The First-Trip Sweet Spot

Six days is enough for Rabat, the blue city of Chefchaouen, two nights in Fes with a guided medina day, a night in the Merzouga dunes, then Todra Gorge, the Dades Valley and the Ait Ben Haddou kasbah before ending in Marrakech.
